WE, the undersigned, gathered in the city of Chicago, Illinois, on February 28, 2012,
WE uphold respect for human rights and permanent peace at the national and international levels.
WE are deeply concerned by the recent unilateral activities carried out in the South Atlantic Ocean, in the around the disputed area, which are inconsistent with the provisional understandings under the sovereignty safeguard formula. These ongoing unilateral activities have included the exploration and exploitation of removable and non-removable natural resources and the conduct of military exercise, including the launch of missiles from Malvinas Islands.
WE in that regard, strongly support the legitimate call of the International Community –as originally envisioned in United Nations Resolution 205 (XX) of 16 December 1965- That requests the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations in order to find, as soon as possible, a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands, while encouraging both sides to re-engage in earnest and create a positive atmosphere for moving forward.
WE welcome the reaffirmation of the will of the Argentina Government, and its people, to continue exploring all possible avenues for peaceful settlement of the controversy and, in particular, its positive views concerning the respect for the lifestyle of Malvinas Islands’ inhabitants.
WE decide to continue to support the international call on the question of the Malvinas Islands until a definitive solution is reached thereon.
This Declaration is opened to future and voluntary endorsement by any individual
